Why is Breakout so important to Baltimore's Gifted? Fresh after the uprising when this was just an idea, no one cared! That's right! Almost no one in my home city thought I was serious and offered little assistance. Then this guy Michael Farber calls me and ask if I want to speak on the Uprising panel. I said sure. On that panel was the police commissioner, director of parks and people and a few other prominent folks. They didn't seem to interested in my solution but Breakout members were. One of the main goals of the Baltimore Women in Tech (BWiT) micro grants program is to support and empower women in the Baltimore tech community. Thank you to SmartLogic and Baltimore Women in Tech for selecting Baltimore's Gifted for a micro grants. The grant will be used towards digital fabrication technology courses and small tools for design. The Contemporary is pleased to announce the third round of grantees of the Grit Fund. In 2017, the Grit Fund received over 70 applications and awarded $55,250 to 11 projects with grants ranging from $3,000 to $6,000. Awards were determined by a five-person jury of local and national arts leaders: Cameron Shaw (New Orleans, LA), Carolyn Lazard (Philadelphia, PA), Khadija Nia Adell (Baltimore, MD), Kris Kuramitsu (Los Angeles, CA), and Melissa Webb (Baltimore, MD).
