WHO
Gifted African American youth ages 13-22 located in Baltimore City.

WHAT
Baltimore's Gifted is an e-commerce based art and fashion initiative for black youth artist in Baltimore City. The web based creative platform is designed for participants to showcase and sell their original art and art derived accessories online, at pop-up shops, and in commercial spaces. Products include: apparel, coffee mugs, pillows, tote bags, and canvas & posters.
Baltimore's Gifted is a hands on, real time, learning tool where youth develop skills in design, merchandising, and apparel production in a live e-commerce environment. Youth retain 80% of net sales!

With the help of a dedicated advisory team, participates work through a self paced action plan to meet their personal and professional development goals. By phase 3, participants will have the opportunity to lead and own the project through management, and marketing roles. Youth that decide to take on professional roles will have real world working experience to add to a resume before they graduate high school or college; or access to opportunities and resources to better equip them for a freelance career.
WHEN
PHASE 1: Pilot March 2016 - April 2017
PHASE 2: April 2017 - April 2018
PHASE 3: Transition April 2018 - TBD
The program has concluded as of June 2019. All orders will continue to be fulfilled and paid out to artist.
WHY
Ownership is the only path to our freedom...no exceptions. Using the FOR US, BY US model; Baltimore’s Gifted mission is to promote economic empowerment, financial literacy, and self sufficiency among black youth while combating the exploitation of black youth by institutions and the non profit industrial complex. There is power in our participation and it deserves compensation that can be measured. Youth will learn to take ownership of their creative work and narratives while earning 80% of net sales. Youth receive assistance from seasoned professionals and creatives they can see a healthy reflection of themselves in while accessing alternative revenue and employment streams.
WHERE
This program is currently open to Baltimore City residents only. Exceptions are made on a case by case basis.
